Last night saw the opening concert in this year’s series featuring Auckland pianist Lucy Zheng. She is in her second year at The University of Auckland School of Music and is studying with Rae de Lisle.
Lucy performed an all Chopin programme to a packed audience in the Lewis Eady showroom. The highlight of the evening for me was a very well constructed rendition of the B minor Sonata showing not only a formidable technique but also a maturity that belies her 18 years. Interesting too was her choice of encore, playing a little known nocturne by Irish composer John Field (information provided to me by one of the audience so please feel free to correct me).
All together, a wonderful way to start the series and we wish Lucy the best for this years studies.
Well done
John Eady
